Rake the Fallen Leaves
The leaves that build up in your lawn might look beautiful, but they can stunt new grass growth and harbor moisture for mold and bacteria to grow. Take an hour or two to rake the leaves in your yard and bag them or burn them as you prefer.
Cut the Grass
Before you pack your lawn mower away for the winter, cut the grass once more to promote healthy growth .The last cut of the season should be at two to three inches so that deer and other woodland creatures don’t feed on your grass.
Aerate the Lawn
Before the first winter freeze, aerate your lawn with a special aerator or garden fork. Spike holes throughout the entirety of the lawn, in order to improve drainage throughout the cold Maryland months. Apply a top-dressing to promote spring growth, and to level out the aerated portions of your lawn.
Take Care This Winter
When it snows this winter, take extra care of your lawn. If you use a shovel to clear the snow, ensure that you don’t damage your grass or hardscape. Snow acts as a natural insulation, so it actually benefits your lawn more than you would expect.
